The Postgraduate Diploma Programme of the School of Media and Communication (SMC) is a 12-month programme that runs in 3 separate streams:

Postgraduate Diploma in Multimedia Journalism

Introduction

The Postgraduate Diploma in multimedia Journalism of the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos is designed to prepare professionals for media practice in the twenty-first century, in accordance with international standards and the best traditions of Nigerian journalism.

The programme is a training response to the radical transformations taking place in the media industry. It targets those already in the profession but who have had no previous training or have been inadequately equipped to meet the changing demands of industry today. The programme is also open to those aspiring to enter the journalism profession with high-value credentials earned from a learning environment where the pursuit of professional excellence, personal integrity and commitment to the common good are foundational principles and goals. It will serve as the best preparation for such newcomers to participate fully in an industry increasingly driven by knowledge, skills, creativity, passion and the spirit of enterprise.

Programme Structure

The Postgraduate Diploma in multimedia Journalism is structured as a two-semester programme that will run for twelve months and an additional three months of internship for purposes of industrial experience. Altogether, the duration of the programme is twelve months.

In all, there will be twelve courses spread between two semesters and the internship period. As part of this course regimen, there will be a project dissertation which will focus on a particular topic relevant to a student’s area of interest. The courses are broadly divided into the print and electronic media streams. Web writing and production skills are common to both streams.

Postgraduate Diploma in Community Relations

Introduction

The Postgraduate Diploma in Community Relations of the School of Media and Communication explores the conceptual, topical and technical aspects of Community Relations as a specialized organizational practice. Students will learn the importance, nature, changing contexts and techniques of various aspects of Community Relations.

Comparisons and contrasts would be drawn between Community Relations practice by organizations in advanced economies and those operating in developing countries like Nigeria, in order to develop competencies that ensure best practices in community work, be it in the oil and gas industry, in telecommunications, in manufacturing, or in governmental and non-governmental agencies.

Programme Structure

The Postgraduate Diploma in Community Relations is structured as a two-semester programme that will run for twelve months and an additional three months of internship for purposes of industrial experience. Altogether, the duration of the programme is twelve months.

Fees for Postgraduate Diploma in Community Relations, which cover tuition, course materials, (no textbook), uses of ancillary facilities, etc., is as follows:

N990, 000 (Nine hundred and ninety thousand, naira only)

However, the fees can be paid instalmentally as follows:

The payment plan options are as follows:

1)       Plan 1: Full payment at the beginning of the programme attracts 2.5% discount (plan ‘A’)

2)       Plan 2: Payment in two installments attracts 1% discount each (that is 50% payment plan ‘B’)

3)       Plan 3: Plan ‘C’:

- Community Relations: N345, 000 is paid at the beginning of the semester, and the balance of N150, 000 could be paid in three months at N50, 000 naira monthly. This will be applicable also in the 2nd semester.

Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Media

Introduction

The Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Media aims at preparing suitable  graduates  of  tertiary  institutions  for  professional practice in creative digital media design and production as well as provide a consolidated foundation for further postgraduate studies in digital media theory and practice.

The  program  content  ranges  from  foundational  concepts  in computer  science,  information  technology  and  design  to specialized  skills  required  for  industry-standard  creative digital  design  and  production. The  core  courses  are  broadly divided into print and electronic media streams. Web writing and production skills are common to both streams.

Programme Structure

The programme is designed to run for twelve months, made up of two semesters and a three-month internship period. Core courses are compulsory for candidates who opt for a particular stream.

Fees for Digital Media & Production and Multimedia Journalism

The fees for the programmes, which cover tuition, course materials, (no textbook), uses of ancillary facilities, etc., are as follows:

1. MULTIMEDIA JOURNALISM: N924, 000 (Nine hundred and twenty-four thousand naira only)

2. DIGITAL MEDIA & PRODUCTION: N1, 064, 800 (One million and sixty-four thousand, eight hundred naira only)

However, these fees can be paid instalmentally as follows:
