Corporate Culture and Organizational Sustainability

At the 2018 Talent Management Forum, we shall be discussing “corporate culture and organizational sustainability.” The choice of the theme was informed by the need to highlight the importance of corporate culture in building sustainable organizations. Yes, there is a link between your corporate culture and how sustainable your business becomes in the long run; just as there is also a correlation between sound corporate culture and attraction/retention of quality employees in an organization.

The corporate culture of an organization represents distinctive ways of organizational life and operations, and would typically manifest in its leadership style, shared mission, vision and values, corporate communal life, and patented technologies and practices.

In our clime, not many organizations pay close attention to how their corporate cultures are formed. Where they exist, they are found to be weak and latent, lacking vibrancy. Among the few with strong and vibrant cultures, there is the issue of cultural transmission. A culture that is not successfully transmitted from one generation to another becomes a dead culture; hence many organizations usually don’t make it for long in many third-world countries after their founders are gone.

Sound corporate culture not only elongates the life of an organization, but also improves staff morale and productivity as well as corporate brand image.

Objective:

The 2018 Talent Management Forum will provide an opportunity to discuss how talent managers and other corporate leaders can become conscious creators and transmitters of corporate cultures for the sustainability of their organizations.
