On 14 May 2025, the SMC welcomed Mr Obi Emelonye, a renowned filmmaker known for works such as ‘The Mirror Boy’ ’Badamasi’ and ‘The Last Flight to Abuja’.
Mr. Obi’s visit began as a master class with the year two students of film and multimedia studies programme. During his session with them, he delved into the challenges and triumphs of his personal journey as a filmmaker in the industry.
Following his master class, Mr. Lawrence Akande, head of the Film and Multimedia studies department, met with him and engaged in productive discussions about potential collaboration between SMC and his production company, while leveraging discussion surrounding the upcoming PAU international student film festival.
Mr Obi’s visit was facilitated by Mr. Henry Andoh of the Lagos Business School, Pan-Atlantic University. emphasizing the importance of industrial-academia collaboration, and cross-institutional partnership in enhancing students’ experiences. His visit sparked excitement among faculty and students alike, marking a milestone in SMC’s efforts to provide students access to industry leaders.
This visit highlighted the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between real-world experiences and classroom practices, giving students an opportunity to network and improve the quality of their learning.
