Students of the School of Media and Communication are excited to be back to school after months of being stuck at home due to the COVID19 pandemic. Though they had started their course work online with the aid of the PAU E-learning platform in OCTOBER 2020, students have visibly missed physical classroom activities which presents to them a sense of community and friendship.
Speaking to some of the students revealed their levels of excitement. Miss Iheakim Helen a 100level student of the department of Mass Communication said “…schooling online was fun and exciting but I look forward to a much better experience by coming to campus and learning physically”.
Physical resumption of classroom activities commenced on the 18th January, 2021 with the 100 level students who had to undergo a mandatory rapid COVID19 testing before they could enter the halls of residence. In addition to this exercise, the SMC has also complied with other guidelines and protocols from the LAGOS state ministry of health and education including the installation of handwashing facilities with soap and water at multiple locations, temperature checks at the main entrance gate, use of hand sanitizers, wearing of face masks, maintaining physical distance and maintenance of 50 percent class capacity for the courses.
This academic year which commenced in October 2020 also had returning students resume their physical activities on the 24th of January, 2021, one week after their fresh year counterparts. They also had to go through a mandatory rapid COVID19 test before being allowed into the halls of residence.
