The 2022/2023 academic session began on the 4th of October, 2022.

The new undergraduate students were the first to arrive on campus, while the returning students resumed on the 11th of October, 2022.

An orientation program was organized for the newly admitted undergraduate students of Mass Communication and ISMS on the 6th of October, 2022.

Then on the 10th and 11th of October, 2022, another orientation programme was organized for the newly admitted Masters students.

The orientation entailed a welcome address by the Acting Dean of SMC, Dr. Ngozi Okpara, an introduction of all faculty and students anchored by Dr. Silk Ogbu, and a briefing on the university’s dress code by Jennifer Iloeka of the Student Affairs department.
There was also an introduction to the e-learning portal by Mr. Philip Okposo of the ICT unit, and a summary of how to use the physical and online library by the librarian, Mrs. Angela Alilonu.

The orientation concluded with the recitation of the university pledge.
