Global Migration and Media Academy Project

To address the fundamental issues of irregular migration from the perspective of the media, the School of Media and Communication has been appointed to train journalists, media enthusiasts and selected PAU students in a forthcoming training programme                                            

Core Objectives

To problematize migration, its opportunities and challenges from the perspective of the global south.



To explore the centrality of the media in shaping the societal discourse of migration



To unpack the role of media to assist nation-states, civil societies in their campaign for effective migration

Migrations, with all the incidental quagmires, chaos, collision, conflicts of peoples of diverse cultures, economic growth, innovations, and advance in cultures and civilizations which they occasion, have been accounted among the decisive forces in history.  Humans by nature migrate on a daily basis from one part of the world to another for different reasons.  Present tendencies indicate that while the mobility of individuals from the global south to north has increased, irregular migration and human trafficking, according to the International Organization for Migration’s Counter Trafficking Data Collaborative (CTDC), has relatively increased as well.  To address the fundamental issues of irregular migration from the perspective of the media, the School of Media and Communication has been appointed to train journalists, media enthusiasts and selected PAU students in a forthcoming training programme entitled: ‘Media and Migration from the Global South’.  This training is sponsored by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), under the flagship of the Global Migration and Media Academy (GMMA) project.

STRUCTURE

This training will be of immense benefit to participants especially at a time when the crave for migration to the global north, whether irregular or not, has greatly increased
