Exclusive Screening of El Anatsui: SMC X Dela Campus Tour

The School of Media and Communication (SMC) partnered with Dela Campus Tour on the 20 of March 2025 to host an exclusive screening of the documentary El Anatsui. Showcased at the school auditorium, the students had the rare opportunity to connect with the visual storytelling of one of Africa’s most revered contemporary artist.

The documentary showcased the aesthetic brilliance of El Anatsui, a Ghanaian sculptor celebrated globally for transforming discarded materials like liquor bottle caps into monumental installations. His works are not merely visually pleasing but also a tool for social-political conversation that has inspired discourse on consumption, waste, and transformations.

The event was more than a film viewing. Drawing the attention of students and staff from various faculties, a deep dive into the creator’s mind and African art on global stage was given an in-depth exposure.  A representative from Dela Campus Tour emphasized the goal of introducing the film and its ideological phenomenon as ‘taking African storytelling and art into academic spaces where young minds can engage meaningfully with their heritage. It’s about inspiring the next generation of thinkers, creatives, or artists to innovate from here and embrace their roots.’

The event was concluded with a networking session where students engaged themselves in shared discussions, ideas, and connected with representatives from DELA. There were also displays of arts inspired by El Anatsui’s work. Offering a blend of cultural celebration, inspiration, and awareness, the screening made a mark on its audience -one that will echo not only academics but also in creative pursuits.
