SMC Professional Education hosts SMC Media Conference for Alumni

From the 3rd to 5th of June 2020, the Professional Education department of the SMC held a 3-day online conference with the theme, Journalism in the Digital Age: Essential Skills Requirements. The conference facilitated a discussion of the challenges of the new technologies in terms of the production, distribution and consumption of news. The 2020 Media Conference was organized in partnership with Business Day Newspapers for journalists who are Alumni of the School of Media and Communication.

Some of the contemporary issues in the profession were tackled: What are some of the myths and realities of Journalism in the Digital Age? Have you explored the art of storytelling using data? Did you know that your smartphone could be all you need for a ground-breaking story?

 

Facilitators at the conference include Frank Aigbogun, Publisher/CEO, Businessday Media; Jean Marie Brown, Assistant Professor of Professional Practice and Director of Student Media Journalism at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, Texas and Anthony Osae-Brown, a former editor of Business Day Newspaper and now head of Bloomberg operations in Nigeria.
