SMC works with Nigeria Police to train Force Public Relations Officers

The School of Media and Communication is pleased to work with the Office of the Force Public Relations Officer to deliver a training workshop for Police Public Relations Officers tagged “Police PROs and Effective Communication in Contemporary Times”. The workshop which held from 8th-11th October 2019 at the Golden Tulip Hotel, Agulu Lake, in Anambra State was sponsored by the Anambra State government.

The aim of the workshop was to reinvent the image of the force and reposition the police spokespersons for optimal performance as critical stakeholders, particularly in the implementation of the National Community Policing Model, which is the impassioned quest of the Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni

In these photos are the Police Public Relations Officers from the twelve (12) Police Zonal Commands, the thirty-six (36) States Commands and the federal capital territory (FCT) with Staff Officers of the Force Public Relations Department attending the four – day strategic training workshop.

Some of the topics discussed were Understanding the Psychology of Communication, Developing Effective Public Relations Strategies for Nigeria Police Force,  Press Releases and Media Writing Skills, Ethics of Public Relations, Stakeholder Identification, Roles and Management, among others.

Dr. Mike Okolo, Dr. Silk Ugwu, Mr. Munachim Amah and Mr. Isaac Ezechukwu the director of Executive Education for SMC were part of the the team that delivered the training in Anambra State.

During the closing ceremony, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Adamu expressed his delight with the training and said he would want the School to keep in touch with the PPROs in order to evaluate them and provide feedback. He also mentioned that the School would possibly develop another training from the evaluation results in order to bridge the knowledge gaps.
