Functional Skills for Teachers, has been designed by the School of Media and Communication (SMC), Pan-Atlantic University, to tackle identified communication barriers that constitute obstacles to effective teaching and learning. Its necessity stems from the fact that teaching and learning are inextricably linked to communication to as much as over 70%.
Functional skills for teachers consist possessing the right teaching communication skills’, combined with other qualities such as leadership, understanding, patience, listening skills, mentoring/problem solving skills and the ability to inspire and motivate. Addressing the communication challenge in the teaching-learning engagement will presumably prepare the ground for a quantum improvement in the quality of education in our nation.
Drawing from the SMC’s pedigree in practical training, the “Communication in Education” programme will further contribute towards the improvement of education standards in Nigeria.
